The Brant County Health Unit is one of 36 health units in Ontario. We are governed by an autonomous Board of Health composed of members from the City of Brantford and County of Brant, and provincial appointees.

The Medical Officer of Health and Executive Director oversee public health services and provide direction to over 120 full- and part-time employees. We serve a population of 136,035 in an area of 1,093.16 sq. km.

Our programs are funded by the provincial government and both local municipalities as defined in the Health Protection and Promotion Act. Our program mandate is described in the Ontario Public Health Standards 2008 and our organizational and governance standards for the agency are detailed in the Ontario Public Health Organizational Standards.


We provide health promotion, protection and disease prevention programs and services designed to help all members of the community achieve and maintain optimal health.
