​Personal Services Settings​

Public health inspectors inspect facilities offering personal services where there is a risk of exposure to blood and body fluids for clients and staff.​ These facilities are called Personal Service Settings (PSSs)

Types of services include:

  • Hair salons and barber shops
  • Tattoo
  • Body and ear piercing
  • Nail salons
  • Microblading and micropigmentation
  • Waxing, laser hair removal
  • Facials and other facial treatments (e.g.. Dermaroller)

Public health inspectors inspect these businesses​ by:

  • Making sure that they comply with Ontario Regulation 136/18
  • Making sure they follow infection prevention and control best practices
  • Educating spa owners and workers on infection prevention and control
  • Responding to consumer complaints
