Pests

The Health Unit has specific roles regarding pests in our community. Pests include bats, bed bugs, cockroaches, rodents, and any other mammal or insect that may be thought of as a public health concern.

How We Help

At the Health Unit, our staff:

  • Investigate reports of pests in food premises (restaurants) and institutions (e.g., seniors/nursing homes, daycares, etc.)
  • May issue orders addressing pest issues to food premises and institutions (e.g., orders to apply pesticide treatments.)
  • Test bats for disease if they are found in a home and may have had contact with people

Pests in Your Home

While we don't investigate reports of or issue orders addressing pests in private homes, rental units, or social housing, we have helpful links and resources to help you control pests.

Please visit the Healthy Canadians website for detailed pest control tips.

First speak with your superintendent or building manager for advice.
