All newborn babies have their hearing checked by a member of staff from the Health Unit.
The Infant Hearing Program is an initiative of the Government of Ontario’s Ministry of Children and Youth Services. Having your baby’s hearing checked is the first step to finding babies who are deaf, hard of hearing, or at risk of developing hearing loss. We also help families find support and services in the community.
Babies have their initial test while still in hospital, Monday to Friday mornings.
If you’re discharged from hospital after business hours or on the weekend, or if your baby did not pass the initial hearing test, the Brant County Health Unit will contact you to complete the infant hearing screen at the Ontario Early Years Centre, or you can register for your baby’s infant hearing test online.
