School Health
A healthy school environment is essential for student success. Healthy students are better learners!
(Health Canada)
The heathy school approach is where the whole school community comes together to share ideas, plan, and take action to help kids lead healthy and active lives (OPHEA, 2015). This approach is based on the Ministry of Education's Foundations for a Healthy School, which consists of five areas of comprehensive school health.

Utilizing this healthy schools approach, Brant County Health Unit's healthy schools team works with the whole school community - administration, teachers, students, parents and various community agencies - to support the health and wellbeing of students and staff.
Our public health nurses are the Health Unit's familiar faces in Brant schools. They work to support schools in addressing the 5 areas of comprehensive school health:
-
Curriculum, Teaching and Learning
- Curriculum resources available for health topics

-
Social and Physical Environments
- Resources for creating safe spaces for students at school
- Supporting equity and inclusivity in schools
- Facilitating or connecting to environmental health support for cafeteria food safety inspections, gym inspections, safe water and health hazard investigations
- Supporting the development and implementation of health in all policies
-
Home, School and Community Partnerships
- Connect you to services offered by community organizations and grant opportunities
- Triple P Positive Parenting Program classes for the school community
-
