Working Towards Smoke-Free Living

The Brant County Health Unit is mandated by the Ministry of Health Promotion to promote smoke-free living as a means of chronic disease prevention. A comprehensive tobacco control program is key in protecting our residents from the effects of tobacco smoke, preventing individuals from starting to smoke and supporting those who want to quit smoking.

Our Goals:
  • To promote tobacco-free living and reduce the incidence of illness and death related to tobacco use/exposure
  • To reduce the number of daily smokers in our community
  • To increase the number of smoke-free public places and workplaces in our community
  • To help workplaces develop non-smoking policies and assist employees who want to quit smoking
  • To increase the number of smoke-free homes in our community
  • To prevent or reduce tobacco sales to minors
  • To provide information and education on the benefits and methods for quitting smoking
